At age 6, Josh Cruddas was the youngest radio host in Canada. Now, slightly older
than 6 years old, he works as an actor, film music composer and teacher. Josh was nominated
for the ACTRA Award for Best Actor in a feature film for his starring role in the American Civil
War epic Copperhead for Warner Bros alongside Peter Fonda and Lucy Boynton.
A native of Kjipuktuk/Halifax, he's best-known for his role as stylish assassin Alexei in Netflix/Dark Horse Comics’ movie Polar,
alongside Mads Mikkelsen, Vanessa Hudgens and Johnny Knoxville, and directed by Jonas Akerlund.
Most recently, he starred as satanist incel Ian in Shudder’s buzzed-about original Horror Anything For Jackson,
which has garnered Cruddas great notices as the film is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and was named one of 2020’s best by RogerEbert.com.
He's also appeared in TV such as Baroness Von Sketch Show, Ghostwriter, 11/22/63, Murdoch Mysteries,
TallBoyz, The Detectives, Private Eyes, Rookie Blue & Reign. Josh recently popped up opposite Forest Whitaker in
How It Ends for Netflix, and The Silencing alongside Game of Thrones’ Nik Coster-Waldau. He also recurred on
Season 3 of the Emmy-nominated BBC/CTV/Hulu miniseries Cardinal, and as Vincent Van Gogh in Hulu’s Future Man
for Seth Rogen. He’ll be seen next in SEE for Apple TV with Jason Momoa, and The Last Mark alongside fellow east-coaster
Shawn Doyle. He has supporting roles in two major blockbuster films releasing in 2021 and 2022:
as fan-favourite Ben Bertolucci in Sony Pictures’ Resident Evil, and a
villain in Roland Emmerich (Independence Day)’s new disaster movie for Lionsgate, Moonfall.
Josh was classically trained at Dalhousie University, where he chose to continue studying acting
and political science because he was sadly not good at anything else. Getting his start in
professional theatre as a teen, he’s performed in plays and musicals across Nova Scotia and
Ontario – he still counts doing the Sound of Music with his younger sisters at Neptune Theatre
in Halifax one of his all-time favourite jobs.
Fortunate to have been born into a big east-coast family passionate about social justice, Josh
has recently been lucky enough to tour Ontario with forum theatre productions about
homophobia and dating violence, reaching young people and hoping to change minds and
attitudes in the far corners of the province.
Another major part of Josh’s life is his work teaching acting and music to kids - last year it was
the honour of his life to be nominated for Best Drama Teacher in Stagecoach Theatre Schools’
worldwide network of over 2500 teachers. It’s his work teaching that he counts most meaningful
- even when his students mercilessly roast him (which is most of the time).
When he’s not working, Josh plays soccer, volunteers at SickKids Hospital, and tweets about
politics way too much.
